Happy Anniversary to us!!

Yesterday was our 17th anniversary (yes, I know...you'd do less time for murder!)

We had a lovely day, playing badminton in the morning, snuggling up on the sofa watching a film in the afternoon and then spending time making a special meal.  The tradition in our family is that on special days you're allowed to choose whatever meal you want.  So as my present to hubby, Lucy and I made St James Steak Pie with creamy mash and buttered veg, followed by apple crumble.  All home-made of course.  The gravy that the steak had slow cooked in was sieved and used as the gravy for the pie and hubby was in absolute heaven !!

It's always lovely to see how much he enjoys proper food.  For the whole meal for three of us (and half the pie is left for him tonight) it probably cost about £10 including a bottle of wine.  How much would that cost in a restaurant??

We also spent time picking the green tomatoes and remains of the courgettes.  Out of thirty or more tomato plants, we've only actually had about ten red ones.....so the remaining crop will be made into chutney.  I'm gutted - we spent so much time on the plants that to have had so little bounty from them is disheartening.

Malteasers Bake and more cookies :-)

Lucy and I spent part of this weekend baking.  We used the recipe for the Malteaser Traybake from The Domestic Goddess, and loved it!  They're very rich so we cut them into small slices but they were gorgeous.

We also tried her recipe for Chewy cookies, which is very similar to a recipe we've used many times.  The cookies turn out like Millies Cookies without the huge price tag !!

Another month....one less daughter at home :-(

Over a month since my last post, during which time my 19yr old has left home and moved to university.  I'm so proud of her, she really deserves this chance as she's studied so hard to get there.  But the house feels slightly empty now :-(

I started the new job and left it within the space of two weeks!! It wasn't what was advertised and at my age to have a job as an office junior and to be treated as such was demoralising.  So it's back to taking overtime at Sainsburys!
